During the New York Comic Con, Ashton Kutcher revealed that being good-looking affected his career as an actor and caused him to miss out on several roles.

While speaking on the panel for his upcoming TV series “The Beauty”, Kutcher, 47, said that not being considered for a role because of his appearance can be frustrating.

Asked by producer Ryan Murphy, the show’s creator, about playing a villain in his new project, the actor explained how looks can play a major role in building a character: “I think in every role you take on, part of it is your appearance, right?” he asked.

“And then, there are roles I got because of the way I look, and there are roles I didn’t get because of the way I look,” he said. “Sometimes it’s frustrating.”

According to a report from People, Kutcher shared that after working as a producer, he came to better understand the reasoning behind some casting choices.

“You’re trying to tell a story through images, and the images have to create a feeling in the audience,” he said.

“Nowadays, you can often only play your own type and nothing else, because playing anything different goes against the values society has imposed on what people should or shouldn’t play,” Kutcher said, expressing satisfaction with his new project.

“It’s a delight. Playing this character is one of the greatest pleasures of my career,” he concluded.
